Freebird florist Petition

To Mike Rumbles MSP and Councillor Richard Stroud,

We, the undersigned, believe it is unreasonable to impose a 66% rent hike on the 'FREEBIRD' florist and pet shop in Alford. Given your responsibility to represent the interests of the community and the businesses intrinsic to their well-being, we request you make an arrangement that allows FREEBIRD to continue trading successfully.

There are 83 entries in the petition.

How can the local council possibly justify a 66% rent rise. They should be encouraging small businesses like Freebird into the rural areas and if anything giving them a reduced rent becuase of the location. If not the rural areas will become a housing site only with no local community activities. Everyone will be travelling into the city for work and shopping and more rural shops and business units will become empty. They do a great job at Freebird lets support them so they can continue doing a good job.

How on earth can Aberdeenshire County Council expect any business to survive a 60% hike in rent Are they hell bent on destroying the comunity by depriving it of yet another small business.
This should not be allowed to happen because to survive as a village, a village needs a variety of shopping outlets

Why 'encourage' yet another shop to close in Alford when that is the last thing that we need. Yes you can say 'use it or lose it' but a good local authority should come up with a rate and rent structure that actively encourages the development of local business. A community spirit develops along with local shopping and local events and these must be developed also, otherwise vandalism and all the problems associated with a satalite community develop in their place. That can not be cost effective.

Alford needs more shops and businesses to stop merely becoming a dormitory village with little community spirit and the social problems that brings.
People demonstrating enterprise locally need support particularly from bodies SUPPOSED to represent local populations.
Please do whatever it takes to ensure Freebird continues to provide a service to the local community.

Losing the Freebird Shop is another stab at the heart of the Alford community. Turning gradually into a commuter belt town.

Save Freebird
Have a heart, why deprive a community, surely there's no need for such a rent increase. How do you expect small businesses to survive?
