Freebird florist Petition
To Mike Rumbles MSP and Councillor Richard Stroud,
We, the undersigned, believe it is unreasonable to impose a 66% rent hike on the 'FREEBIRD' florist and pet shop in Alford. Given your responsibility to represent the interests of the community and the businesses intrinsic to their well-being, we request you make an arrangement that allows FREEBIRD to continue trading successfully.
There are 83 entries in the petition.

| CARY CUMMING | Signed on: Fri 22 Dec 2006 12:59:04 UTC A shop like FREEBIRD would be greatly missed, it is a real community shop, vital for us pet owners and so usefull for such a variety of 'little extras'. A warm and friendly place to shop. How can this rent rise be justified? The community stands to gain nothing but lose so much. SAVE FREEBIRD!! |
| Carole Peacock | Signed on: Fri 22 Dec 2006 12:59:34 UTC Freebird is vital to the local commnity. Don't let yet another shop close. |
| Gillian Gibson | Signed on: Thu 21 Dec 2006 13:59:20 UTC SAVE FREEBIRD - the Alford Community needs and supports it. The council are being very short sighted. There are already empty shops in Alford's Main Street, so do they really expect to be able to fill an empty shop - or are they happy to accept that Alford will become a commuter village. As a mother of two young children I don't want to have to get in the car so that I can do my shopping - I want to be able to do it locally. |
| Carol Hinton | Signed on: Thu 21 Dec 2006 13:59:39 UTC The council has given permission for more house to be built in Alford but at the same time is forcing one of our shops to close down. Please be sensible we need more shops not less so that Alford can support its population. Surely a compromise could be reached over the rent increase. |
| Anya mckenna | Signed on: Thu 21 Dec 2006 06:55:40 UTC please save freebird as it is a major assett to the community... |
| Brian G Sellers, I.S | Signed on: Wed 20 Dec 2006 04:01:28 UTC Freebird must be kept. |
| Neil Caple | Signed on: Wed 20 Dec 2006 05:00:17 UTC An empty shop generates NO rental income for the landlord (the council?). What's the point of driving a business under with these Rackman rent increases? Are the council hoping to redevelop the empty site into something more profitable? |
| Neil Crossling | Signed on: Wed 20 Dec 2006 05:01:17 UTC I think FREEBIRD is an essential business in the village and as such needs to be supported by the community and also by the council, who need to take in to consideration the consequences of such actions as massive rent increases. Surely there is a way to reduce and stagger such increases. If not the result is an empty shop, a lot of unhappy former customers and a council with an empty property. |
