Freebird florist Petition

To Mike Rumbles MSP and Councillor Richard Stroud,

We, the undersigned, believe it is unreasonable to impose a 66% rent hike on the 'FREEBIRD' florist and pet shop in Alford. Given your responsibility to represent the interests of the community and the businesses intrinsic to their well-being, we request you make an arrangement that allows FREEBIRD to continue trading successfully.

There are 83 entries in the petition.

As someone who has just moved back to the most beautiful part of the world here in the North East after 17 years in England, I'm appalled that this shop is being forced to close because of council intransigence. My friends from down south love this area and we have all visited this shop and agree Alford is lucky to be served by such nice premises. Give the lady a break for goodness sake and stop destroying our communities. Save the local shop!

Being disabled this shop and staff are a lifeline for me. Dee's must stay open the local council should look at it this way they are currently recieving money for these premises and if it closes like the last time it will be closed for a long time earning them nothing SEE SENSE

Aberdeenshire Council do not care about a small business such as this, surely a rebate or subsidised rent could be arranged to enable the business to continue and phase the increase in over several years. That though requires common sense and initiative, sadly lacking at the council.

A wonderful shop - the Council should be looking at the community needs and not just how high a rent can they possibly get.

Nice idea of the council, firstly force all the local shops to shut with massive rent increases then blame people for using their cars!

If the council run a facility for local need and then it makes a loss so be it but if a private person/company runs something for local need then its got to be commercial rent!

To increase FREEBIRD's rent by 66% in one go is absolute madness, does the council wants them to close down?! No private landlord in his right mind would do that unless he wanted to get rid of his tennants. +Freebird offers a service which can not be found anywhere else in the area, what are people supposed to do, drive all the way to Aberdeen?

I was very disappointed to hear that freebird may close this is a shop thats vital to our community. To see that advert in the local Piper promoting alford, great for shopping thats a joke! more and more are closing, why? More houses being built no problems there!!! I dont want to travel any farther than i have to, surely it makes sense for our local mps to help resolve the problem not leave it all up to us to fight for.

Alford is fast becoming a satelite town. It is important to maintain it's own individual identity. FREEBIRD is an essential part of Alford. Stop the rot NOW - SAVE FREEBIRD
