Freebird florist Petition

To Mike Rumbles MSP and Councillor Richard Stroud,

We, the undersigned, believe it is unreasonable to impose a 66% rent hike on the 'FREEBIRD' florist and pet shop in Alford. Given your responsibility to represent the interests of the community and the businesses intrinsic to their well-being, we request you make an arrangement that allows FREEBIRD to continue trading successfully.

There are 83 entries in the petition.

How can it be a rational decision to raise the rent and close the business, achieving a zero rent? Does Aberdeenshire Council have an alternative tenant in mind? Unless they have a tenant who will have a business up and running in 4 months, they have not increased their income. In one swoop, Aberdeenshire Council has managed to lose income, destroy a business located in the heart of the community, deprive people of their home, destroy a village amenity. Clearly Aberdeenshire Council is a wonderful governmental body having the best interests for our community!!!!-Not.

This un presidented eviction must be put on hold and let the law courts decide if this is legal. This method of removing a tennant good or bad was changed many years ago. I would suggest a tennant has the first choice to buy. They are also evicting two residents, they also have legal rights.

freebird CANT CLOSE! its a fab shop with stuff for everyone! A variety of thriving shops brings people into the village. More closures will mean people have to drive to Westhill or Inverurie - it does not make sense.

With more houses being built Alford can't afford to lose more shops

There MUST be a way of resolving this satisfactorily without putting a huge strain on Dee and her family. Freebird is an essential part of the Alford and surrounding community, meets a very real need to so many people and is a greatly valued resource.
