Freebird florist Petition
To Mike Rumbles MSP and Councillor Richard Stroud,
We, the undersigned, believe it is unreasonable to impose a 66% rent hike on the 'FREEBIRD' florist and pet shop in Alford. Given your responsibility to represent the interests of the community and the businesses intrinsic to their well-being, we request you make an arrangement that allows FREEBIRD to continue trading successfully.
There are 83 entries in the petition.

| mary taylor | Signed on: Sun 31 Dec 2006 17:45:07 UTC Greatly saddened for the shop owners, and for me and others who depend on the shop for dog and bird food in bulk, not to mention all the other users. I can understand the councils need of income, but not at the cost of honest hardworking people who provide a vital service to the local community. |
| Debbie Jackson | Signed on: Sun 31 Dec 2006 16:43:34 UTC Can common sense please please prevail. This issue affects us all on many levels. Its a hard working family that contributes greatly to the character of Alford. Please dont make me buy flowers in TESCO instead. |
| Norman Mackie | Signed on: Sun 31 Dec 2006 16:00:49 UTC Alford needs more shops not less. A rent increase of 66% is scandalous. Is the rent increase going towards councillors early retirement funds ? |
| Karen Laing | Signed on: Sun 31 Dec 2006 11:58:44 UTC The Council must maintain local services instead of trying to keep in line with excessive property prices created by the abundance of wealth in the area |
| Graeme Laing | Signed on: Sun 31 Dec 2006 11:55:01 UTC Yet again the so called powers are trying to kill a community! |
| judith stewart | Signed on: Sun 31 Dec 2006 08:23:35 UTC we can't let Alford lose this vital shop, only to possibly gain something that is not much use to the majority of the village. |
| Scott Hunter | Signed on: Sat 30 Dec 2006 21:28:08 UTC this is ridiculous and someone should tell the council to use a little bit of common sence, especially when some of these small buisnesses are already struggling to compete with bigger traders like Pets At Home etc. they provide more than just a convient local shop, they are what makes country life different from city life. |
| Sean Doyle | Signed on: Sat 30 Dec 2006 21:23:23 UTC i cant believe that the councill can call a 66% increase in rent keeping with current market values. This is totally outrageous. they should be encouraging local buisness not pricing it out, especially with the likes of Tesco and Asda opening new stores in nearby Huntly taking busness from these small independant traders. |
| Gary Raikes | Signed on: Sat 30 Dec 2006 22:43:41 UTC The council seem to bend backwards to help supermarkets at the expense of local shops (Huntly for example) how can they justify a 66% rise!! maybe to pay for the increase in local councillors payments next year! |
| Robert Graham | Signed on: Sat 30 Dec 2006 17:30:03 UTC Aberdeenshire Council appears to focus its attentions and support solely on its large towns - Inverurie, Ellon etc whilst neglecting its rural hinterland. |
