Freebird florist Petition

To Mike Rumbles MSP and Councillor Richard Stroud,

We, the undersigned, believe it is unreasonable to impose a 66% rent hike on the 'FREEBIRD' florist and pet shop in Alford. Given your responsibility to represent the interests of the community and the businesses intrinsic to their well-being, we request you make an arrangement that allows FREEBIRD to continue trading successfully.

There are 83 entries in the petition.

So much for encouraging businesses in rural communities!

Stating the obvious,no more shops standing empty. such a huge increase in rent seems most unreasonable, and the shop closure would be a big loss to the community, surely a fair rent is better than no rent .there is one shop that that has stood empty for 4yrs and shows no sign of becoming occupied. do we want a village that looks half dead.

the council are nothing but money hungry fools.and really selfish.

What a waste if this pet shop was to close. My parents are so disheartened that the rent has been increased and this shop is likely to close. I really hope the council can rethink the rent increase. Loosing this business will not be good for the village as a whole. It's a poor show!

I would like to comment on my utter disbelief that a very good pet shop and florist has been presented with such a ludicrous rent increase. As a puppy walker for Guide Dogs for the Blind, the service provided by this retail unit and the owner is invaluable as part of a Guide Dog Puppy's training and I would urge you to consider a solution which will enable the owner to continue with her shop. Alford, as a small village cannot afford to loose this pet shop. Yours in anticipation, Mrs R Lavery

Sincerely hope this situation can be resolved. As Dee has put a lot of time and effort into building up a business that is an asset to many people in the community.

Read about the inordinate hike in rates imposed on this lady florist. Absolurte disgrace - must cause Council to have a re-think - how do they expect small businesses to flourish?
Reading comments from locals, it is obvious this is a well liked and used business that should not be allowed to be closed by heavy-handed burocracy.

Dee has worked hard to build this business up, over many years. She took the plunge 6 years ago to move to bigger premises and expand the business for the benefit of the community. I think it is ridiculous that the council expect to increase the rent by that amount in one fell swoop. Boo to Aberdeenshire Council for their attitude towards Dee. I fully intend emailing this address to all my friends and can only hope that people stand up and take notice. Save Freebird and you will be saving the heart of a very good village.

Ditto everything that has already been written! Alford doesn't need yet another empty shop. It seems that over the recent years, businesses have come and gone too quickly. Dee has spent many years building up the business and it would be a real tragedy if she were forced to close the doors of Freebird.

I think its terrible that the Pet Shop rent should be raised that much.
