GrampianLife Petition

Freebird florist Petition

To Mike Rumbles MSP and Councillor Richard Stroud,

We, the undersigned, believe it is unreasonable to impose a 66% rent hike on the 'FREEBIRD' florist and pet shop in Alford. Given your responsibility to represent the interests of the community and the businesses intrinsic to their well-being, we request you make an arrangement that allows FREEBIRD to continue trading successfully.

There are 83 entries in the petition.

Used to supply Dee with little arty gifts and she always payed promptly,
there again its the up fronters that so called bully bigwigs like to knock to the back.
Good Luck Dee, you deserve better treatment than this

We would miss Dee and her shop. Alford needs small businesses to maintain an atmosphere for shopping that is not dominated by the likes of Tesco, etc. It is nice to go into a shop, know the people who serve you by name and be able to buy different things under the same roof. Please help her to stay where she is.

I think yet again the councillors in Aberdeenshire have shown nothing short of utter contept to local businesses. If they put more effort into protecting businesses like this and less on lining their own pockets and self-interest... local people have had enough.

It would be a shame to loose such a good business with friendly, helpful staff, where else would I go for my dog food and flowers not to mentoin gift cards and baloons? SAVE FREEBIRD!

Hoping Council reviews - and deals with this situation satisfactorily, and sensibly, making it possible for Freebird to remain open and continue to provide much needed and valued service

I hope some compromise can be reached. It will be a shame if Dee has to close after putting in so much hard work over the years. The service she provides will be sorely missed. Despite Aberdeenshire's efforts to localise local government, I wonder if this is evidence that in some aspects the 'big government' attitude of one size fits all is still alive and kicking?

one by one the little shops close because they can't keep up the fight against the big boys. Without the support of the council what hope do small villages have. We used to be a nation of shopkeepers and now we are a nation of supermarkets and villages have no real sense of identity. Let's not turn Alford into a ghost town - let's keep it special! The locals are willing to support this - that much is clear from the number of signatures on a petition for a small shop in a rural village. Listen to those voices... PLEASE!

Councillors?
They sound more like gangsters. Somebody should lock them up.
