Local energy buying group
Thursday, 24 September 2009

**Latest News 9/7/11**

Due to a move to the US I'm unable to administer the planned energy buying group.

I have referred many users who had expressed to Richard Howells who has set up a scheme that seems to be working successfully for people in the Grampian area.  Please email This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it for further information.

Information on this site is left up purely for interest.

Here is a message and an image that Richard supplied me on July 9th:

The Grampian Oil Syndicate launched in 2010.  Members get a discount on their central heating oil through group buying.  Find out more and sign up at the web site -

oilconsolidation.co.uk - Grampian Oil Syndicate

- reduce your heating costs too.

Group buying organizes multiple orders for delivery on the same day.  That’s much more efficient for the supplier and we can negotiate a discount.  The map shows areas (as of July 2011) where we already have members.  Get more information, and register, here

Don’t miss out.  Register today to get your discount on the next order.

In this time of inflated oil prices, some of us have been investigating the possibility of setting up a buying group so it won't cost an arm and leg to keep warm. By combining buyer power, co-operative buying groups are able to attract significant savings from energy suppliers. Of course the discount will rise with the number of folk involved.

Thanks to all who have responded to the positive publicity we've been receiving, including the Piper and Herald and the Press and Journal  (Households warm to the idea of saving on heating oil costs 17/9/08).

We are looking at various avenues of support and the various structures the organisation can assume.

To keep admin down in the early stages we're keeping everything online.

Please continue to encourage all of your relatives, friends, neighbours, work buddies to sign up. If you know one or more people without internet access who'd like to register their interest, please send a message (by clicking Contact) with the following information

Planning Developments at Midmar Inn
Friday, 26 September 2008

The campaign continues to save the Midmar Inn. The Aberdeenshire Council Planning Department posted in the Inverurie Herald on Sept 26th 2008, that the submitted application for change of use of the Inn has 5 "potential departures" from Council policy.

You can see the council's notice and read the commentary of the Friends of Midmar Inn Community Company here:
