Alford Fiddlers

A traditional Scottish music group made up of about 12 regulars, a mixture of accordions and fiddles with a guitarist and keyboard player as well. We meet every Wednesday, from 7.30pm - 9.30pm at Alford Railway Museum and Railway Station. We are led by Martin Conn, a very competent and experienced accordionist. We are very keen to recruit new members, especially fiddle players, and any ability is welcome from beginners through to experienced players (we are a very supportive group). We have played at a number of charity events and have more in the offing. We are also planning a fiddlers' rally in 2007. Come and join us....the tunes are topping and the banter's fine!

How sad is this? I'm posting a reply to my own topic....ah well! Look, I know some of you are in far flung places, e.g. Australia (I think some of my ancestors deserved to be sent there!), but there must be some fiddlers near to Alford who could come and give the Alford Fiddlers a go.....having said that we do have a new fiddler and a new guitarist...welcome to Shelagh and Richard. But mechty me its fiddlers we need, lots of them.....OK well Alford's not that big but wouldn't it be great to have loads of folk from Upper Donside involved in traditional music making? Anyone visiting is also welcome....see the ad in the Donside Piper for contact details. Details to follow soon on our performance dates and next year's fiddlers rally. _________________ Groove with the music and toot ye tooter!

Russell is very kindly in the middle of setting up a website for the Alford Fiddlers (much appreciated, Russell) so pretty soon folk will be able to read a little about the group, see some video clips, get some links to other traditional music websites, and hopefully, eventually hear some longer tracks recorded at our Wednesday sessions, so watch this space.... _________________ Groove with the music and toot ye tooter!

Another date for the Alford Fiddlers for your diaries....we have been asked to play a short spot in a community concert at the Banff Folk Festival at Duff House on Sunday April 1st. Other performers include members of the Youth Music Initiative, The Portsoy Skippers, The Phoenix Dance Company, members of the Gaitherin, and a Brazilian-Scots fusion drumming band. The concert will run from 12.00 - 4.00pm and follows a gig by Fairport Convention the previous evening. _________________ Groove with the music and toot ye tooter!
