Cahit and Sibel, Turks living in Germany, meet head on – he has forgotten why he started drinking and she is desperate to escape the narrow straitjacket of a traditional marriage before she has even had time to live a little. Their marriage of convenience of course draws them together and eventually back to Turkey, though here again they are marginalised, truly at home in neither culture. This film is gritty and often brutal but is essentially a love story. It also features a great soundtrack mixing Turkish and western music.
